Wolf (canis lupus)

Currently there are over 1 000 wolves in Estonia. The average weight of a wolf is about 35-45 kilograms, although significantly heavier wolves have been hunted as well. The mating season of the wolves lasts from January to February. The cubs are usually born in April. Wolves reach sexual maturity at 2-3 years of age.

Wolf Hunting

It is allowed to hunt the wolf from November the 1st to February the 28th. Wolf can be hunted by waiting in feedlots or by using dogs.

The amount of wolf hunting varies depending on the year; however in recent years the wolf population has been steadily growing and wolf hunting quotas have gone up. Rakvere district has the greatest potential for wolf hunting.
